Goals and Descriptions
K-8 Art

EPS K-8 art is based upon the philosophy of "every person is a special kind of artist". Every student is entitled to Art Education: Art is a universal language that defines a society. Each student needs to learn to utilize and understand this language. Professional art educators provide a sequential, K-12 developmental program to help each student succeed. Discipline Based Art Education (DBAE) provides students with learning through five major methods. These methods strongly utilize the higher level thinking skills of Bloom's Taxonomy. Art is also interdisciplinary with grade level curriculum. The five components of DBAE are:Aesthetics: The nature, value and role of art.Art History: The content and context of art, featuring artists.Art Criticism: Learning to make informed judgment about art.Art Production: Applying skills, concepts and principles in creating art.Multiculturalism: Understanding and appreciating viewpoints and contributions through art.
