DEFINITION OF GUIDANCE AND COUNSELING PROGRAM The Elkhorn Comprehensive Guidance and Counseling Program is an integral part of our school's total educational program. It is developmentally appropriate for students and provides sequential activities organized and implemented by certified teachers who are endorsed as school counselors. It is a collaborative effort among students, parents/families, teachers/other staff, administrators, and the community. The program has four components: Guidance Curriculum, Individual Planning, Responsive Services, and System Support. Additionally, the curriculum has three content areas Personal/Social Development, Educational Development, and Career Development. This program is designed to address the needs of all Elkhorn students.

Personal/Social Development

Recognize personal beliefs and emotions and their effects.

Learn to balance school, work, family, and social life(manage stress).

Learn to make decisions by setting goals, planning, and persisting despite obstacles and setbacks.

Demonstrate the ability to work independently.

Interact positively with others using effective communication skills.

Work cooperatively in diverse settings to accomplish a common goal.

Acknowledge individual differences and common bonds by demonstrating skills related to the positive effects of diversity, inclusiveness, and fairness.
