Goals and Descriptions
HS Family Consumer Science

STANDARDS: Objectives for this course are linked directly to the National Standards for Family & Consumer Sciences Education (FCSNS). The national comprehensive standards are listed with the course objective; the content standards are listed with the unit objectives; and the content competencies are listed with each lesson objective.
Family & Consumer Science "standards" (FCS) listed with each objective are taken from the Nebraska Family & Consumer Sciences Essential Learnings. A listing of links to "L.E.A.R.N.S." (Leading Educational Achievement through Rigorous Nebraska Standards) can also be found in the catalog of Nebraska Family & Consumer Sciences Essential Learnings, showing the connections of FCS objectives to those found in the math, science, social studies, and reading/writing areas.

Textiles, Clothing, & Design

COURSE OBJECTIVE: This class focuses on the interests of the individual student. Each student identifies a goal related to the field of textiles, practices the skills necessary to accomplish that goal, and proceeds toward the completion of that goal at a satisfactory pace. Individual goals are set with the instructor's approval, and might include but not be limited to skills such as clothing construction, knitting, crocheting, fashion design, fabric dyeing, machine-quilting, applique', embroidery, crewel, latch hook, crafting, etc.
Because it takes an extended length of time to practice and perfect many textile skills, students may enroll repeatedly in this course for full credit. During each subsequent semester of instruction, students would be expected to select new or more challenging aspects of textile construction for their individualized project.
